What am I thankful for? Any night I get out of the house for a good metal show. November 12 at The Revolution Concert House and Event Center in Garden City, ID was one of those nights. With Avatar headlining the show and Alien Weaponry and Spirit World in support.

Spirit World started the night off with a solid set.  Thrash metal forward coming through with death metal at some points in their music. The guitars were solid. Dressed in their country western suits embroidered with bones and roses. They definitely set the stage and energy for the upcoming night of music and heavy sounds.  Up next was Alien Weaponry from New Zealand.

The drummer stepped up on stage and opened with Haka, with the other two members coming up on stage and joining in. Their music being inspired by their Maori background and New Zealand roots come through in all their music they performed during their set. With some thrash sneaking through and a little death metal. Their set was top notch. Getting the first crowd surfer of the night.  Their clean vocals mixed with some gutterals and as well as singing in the Maori language made for an amazing sound. This leaves me looking forward to Avatar's set. Which was up next.

As the thunder of intro music began, the ground fog rolled in alluding to the theatrics and fanfare meets metal meets something unique to me that was to come. Kicking the show off dark and cloaked with a watchmen lantern in hand. This was the sign things were going to get fun. The roar of the crowd suggested so. The vocals I have only ever known over the radio arrived in my ear with much delight. There's certain energy to this music that makes me want to march head first into the fray of battle. But then it make me want to dance. I haven't had a chance to listen to there most recent album “Don't go Into The Forest.” released in October of this year but I am definitely going to.

Something about the Swedish bands I have covered Sabaton, Meshugga, and most certainly Avatar, is that you can hear the Nordic roots in their music even if the each band is a complete different sound. Its just something I hear in their music. Even with the solo piano performance of “Tower” the call response had a medieval cathedral chant feel to it. The Cathedral of Avatar. This show out did itself and blew me out of the water. I will certainly be catching them the next time they come through town.
