When I walked into The Shrine Social club on August 7th, the vibe was absolutely electric. Ska and punk music fans filled the ballroom almost to the brim. They were here for a reason, and that reason was Fishbone, and Less Than Jake.

Fishbone is a ska band from Los Angeles that has been amazing concertgoers since the ‘80s. They blend ska with almost every other genre and create a funky, fun, and energetic sound that gets people moving. I first saw them close to 15 years ago, and am happy to report that they have not slowed down at all. They were just as exciting and talented as the first time I saw them.

After Fishbone, Less Than Jake took the stage. This brought a huge roar from the crowd, and the band immediately dropped into their signature ska/punk sound. They played songs from their newest album, and their old albums; showing everyone that, despite their older age, they can still keep up and rock as hard as they used to. The horns were blaring, the guitar riffs belted, and the lead singer had enough jokes and humor to keep the crowd laughing and engaged as they chatted between songs. Less Than Jake doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and I would recommend seeing them before they do.
