Another warm evening at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater was met with New Found Glory opening the night to a packed house. Playing one new song which I forgot to write down and many of their older originals in the set. The lead singer coming off stage to sing in the middle of the pit helped set the atmosphere for the crowd. The evening is set to take me back to high school which in this instance is a good thing. They finished their set with “My Friends Over You” a classic and favorite. Next up is Jimmy Eat World.

Jimmy Eat World came on to a completely packed house. It was a fast first three songs. After which I needed a snack and bought a poster. I came back to “Bleed American”. I find it hard to believe I haven't taken a chance to see them live until now. They sounded great, at this point my heart has begun filling with joy of getting to see some of my favorite punk bands. Second to last song of the night “Sweetness” Took me back to sitting in my room just listening to this music over and over again. Of course, they finished the night with “The Middle” and why wouldn't they. At this point my voice is beginning to get hoarse.

What in the hell is this intermission? A blimp, a gorilla mask. What is going on? This is before the set. This is gonna get wild. Various cams from Kiss Cam with various reenactments from recent Cold Play concert. The F**k You cam where people let their birds fly. Their video walls rocked Pop Art frames and animations. Then the video got a little darker and two inflatable skeletons graced the crowd the stage spitting their haze. Looking up at the video wall I noticed my first a surfer moving across the pit. Something was different with this one though; It was a woman in a wheelchair moving smoothly across the sea of hand towards the barricade. Their attendance setting a world record in attendance after a few child births …the crowd was 1,315,231 according to Noodles, really it was pretty close to sold out which was spectacle to be seen .  After the jokes, they followed up with “Bad Habit” and an Ozzy tribute with bits of “Electric Funeral”, “Paranoid”, and “Crazy Train”.  They followed this with some schtick and then a Ramones cover of “I Wanna Be Sedated” touching back to punk rock’s roots. After “Gotta get away”, I witnessed one the best drum solos I have ever seen.  “Gone Away” with Dexter playing the piano with some cold spark fountains and showers with the rest of the band for the crescendo was a touching and settled moment amongst the thousands of phone lights illuminating the space in an otherwise off the wall kinda night. This wasn't for long as they told more jokes and interacted with the crowd. The beach balls were quite entertaining as they bounced across a sea of fingertips; and they were surprisingly heavy. They ended the night with “You're Gonna go Far Kid” and “Self Esteem” some of their biggest hits, which is to be expected. Over all this show was like watching and hour long music video with a live performance and i’m ok with that. It was a great show.
