It’s Valentines Day, and The Knitting Factory is sold out for The Elovaters, with Schwayze and Jarv for support. The size of this crowd out the gate tells me this is going to be a solid show. It had me waiting in anticipation for the opening act to come out on stage.
Jarv walked out on stage casually to his mix board. There was nothing casual about its set. Making the most out of the space he had, he proceeded to impress me with his lyricism. Spitting words on cyclic. It was almost hypnotic. Don't miss a chance to see this artist's mastery of the spoken word. His presence energy is setting the tone for the night and has me excited to see what Schwayze brings.
Not to be let down, the crowd erupted when Shwayze took the floor. Just as high energy bringing the guitar and drums presenting a fusion of pop, rock, rap, and reggae, this would be a dance party if there was room to dance(that's not a bad thing). The house was packed as he filled the air with summer vibes. Heads bobbing in the green lit haze it was easy to just sit and smile. Eventually, near the end of his set he brought out the drummer from The Elovaters, getting the crowd to raise their hands. A few songs later playing new song “Floatin”. This was a great set and worth seeing again if I get a chance.
The Elovaters entered the stage and the crowd was as loud as it ever was tonight. Opening with “Roll Up” followed by “Wind on My Back”. The band was just as high energy but in a mellow laid back manner. Seemingly just as excited to be here as we are. Not to be left out, the band cheersed to the crowd Peace signs held high. Their music varies from reggae rock to a folk song reminiscent of The Lumineers. That said Boise showed up tonight with their singing voices loud, Singing along to what seemed to me every song. I found myself moving to the music just as much as I was shooting photos. It has me excited for their album release “Sharkbelly Motel” In May this year. The song “Bill's to Pay” listen to quite a bit prior to the show and it sounded just as good live. Adding to music they brought Jarv and Schwayze out during “Meridian”. All around this has been a memorable Valentine's Day for me.
To wrap it up, the show was outstanding, the production was modest. Some ground package and some drapes accompanied by the house rig.
Modest was the perfect vibe for the energy of the show. Smooth, basey ( is that even a word, it is now) with gentle soulful vocals. It was nice to see the fans living in the music with their phones pretty much put away. This is the kinda music you can work all day to, or better yet get sunburn laying on the beach somewhere.
