Drove to Pocatello for this show. Traffic was weird and it rained a little going through Mountain Home. I arrived excessively early as I always do. It's fine though, this allowed time to work out some kinks. So, everything was peachy keen.
Starting out the night was the band Vended. I've heard a lot of talk and chatter about them. I can see why, these guys are great. Their set was quick as an opener but it was packed with energy. I look forward to seeing them again in Boise, ID on the 5th of October. This may not be published by then so I'll do a short snippet of their show there. It's in a vastly different venue. It will be great to see how they adapt.
Static X came on with jack-o-lantern clad characters and bubble machines. I was excited to finally see XerO. I was not disappointed, the costumed lead singer with those glowing red eyes brings a certain energy and mood that reflects their industrial metal sound. Wind killed the haze geysers. More Halloween themed characters came out on the stage. Of course there were more bubbles, I feel if it wasn't for the wind they would have been a lot more entertaining. Static-X doesn't need that to be entertaining though. They had an amazing set. Noticed XerO's eye color changed with the stage lights, red and then to blue and back to red. The wind blew the balloons they sent out into the crowd right out of the pit, that was kind of a bummer. For their last song it was no surprise they performed “Push It” and with that came a wave of crowd surfers. Great close to their set.
Mudvayne came out after a brief announcement from Kbear 101, the local rock station. Chad Gray had all the energy I expected when he took the stage. I shot a lot of photos, at least I think I did, writing this I have yet to download my photos. The lights were pretty minimal, just a ground package and the house rig. It was still well done. Chad Gray's interaction with the fans was top notch. Talking about metal music and its impact on his life. Pretty inspiring and motivational. Overall they had a pretty straight forward show. Keep the crowd warm and energized on an otherwise cold night. I honestly should have worn my hoodie. I wandered over to the merch booth to see what wares were being sold and picked up some patches. When I came back Chad had changed over to his F**K Cancer shirt still full of energy. Set continued on with Mudvayne getting the crowd involved in multiple tracks. They finished the night with one of their biggest hits “Happy?”. It was a great finish to a great night of metal music in eastern Idaho.
